Who we are
Established in 2000 by owner Dave Matthews, Blenheim Vineyards is located 20 minutes southeast of Charlottesville. With three vineyard sites growing seven varieties, the goal at Blenheim Vineyards is to make high quality wines that reflect the climate, soil, and beauty of the surrounding piedmont landscape.
Why we went solar
Our goal at Blenheim is for our winemaking operation to have as little of an impact on the environment as possible; our land is under conservation easement, and we offer a refillable wine growler service that has saved 450 cases of bottles. The combination of panel efficiency going up and costs coming down made going solar seem like a no-brainer. It was a way for us to easily save some money and reaffirm our commitment to being responsible environmental stewards.
Benefits of going solar
Going solar benefits the environment and it also benefits us financially. We were able to take advantage of the various incentives available and purchase a system large enough to offset our entire warehouse’s energy use, which we’ll be able to pay off in only five years.
