Protect solar in Arizona; Stop the legislature’s power grab

Clean energy opponents in Arizona’s legislature want to take away the Arizona Corporation Commission’s ability to set new energy rules. This would halt our progress to achieving the goal of 100% clean energy.

Arizona has made great progress toward using more solar energy. Much of this is thanks to standards and rules set by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC). The ACC is responsible for regulating utilities in the state. It has used its power to encourage more clean energy. Now, the legislature wants to take this power away.

What’s happening

The ACC is close to finalizing rules to require Arizona’s utilities to deliver 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050. These rules mean investment in more energy efficiency and energy storage as well. They’ll also make utility planning processes more transparent.

This has upset clean energy opponents in our Legislature. They’ve filed bills that would take away the ACC’s power to modernize Arizona’s energy rules.

If passed and signed into law, the bills would subvert a years-long, bipartisan process at the ACC to expand our state’s commitment to clean energy. The ACC clean energy rules have earned the support of thousands of Arizonans and should not be stopped by the Legislature.

What you can do

Contact your legislators. Urge them to protect Arizona’s clean energy progress. Use the form at the right to tell them why you support solar energy and why taking this power away from the ACC is a mistake.
