Make sure your electric cooperative serves you
September 28, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm EDT
Virtual Event
Electric cooperatives are supposed to serve the needs of their member-owners. But in Virginia, they don’t. Virginia’s electric cooperatives operate with little member input. This has allowed the cooperatives to unfairly increase member-owner rates. It has allowed them to slow the adoption of new technology, like solar and broadband.
Join us via Zoom to learn how you can fight back. Protect yourself from unfair electric rate increases. Ensure that your cooperative allows you to go solar and be energy efficient.
Cooperative members from around the country will join us. They’ll share what they’ve done to reform their cooperatives.
Speakers include:
- Seth Heald, Co-Founder RepowerREC; and member-owner of Rappahannock Electric Co-op in Virginia
- Joe Smyth, Research & Communications Manager, Energy and Policy Institute; and Creator of CleanCooperative.com
- Benita Wells, CFO, Southern Echo and Co-Chair Advancing Equity and Opportunity Collaborative: Democratizing Rural Electric Co-ops working group
- Holly Metzler, Board member, La Plata Electric Association in Colorado. LPEA is a founding member of the NextGen Co-op Alliance.
