About the program

Solar United Neighbors (SUN) is working with local governments across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Together, we’re making it easier and more affordable for your family. 

How it works

The Capital Area Solar Switch program uses group buying. Bringing many people together allows you to get a lower price on your solar installation, battery storage, and or EV charger. The benefit of group pricing means you can save 15-25% on your solar investment.

The group is free to join. Joining isn’t a commitment to make a purchase. 

SUN has partnered with iChoosr who will use their solar expertise to select the companies to serve the group. Capital Area Solar Switch participants will have support from iChoosr and Solar United Neighbors staff throughout the process. This ensures you’re confident in your decision to go solar.

Timeline

  • By May 15 – Capital Area Solar Switch launches. 
  • By June 21 – iChoosr will select the installers. 
  • By August 1 – Program participants will receive a personal recommendation for a rooftop solar system tailored to fit their individual needs. 
  • By January 2024 – All solar installations completed
