Tell Gov. Holcomb: No blank checks for monopoly utilities!

Act now to tell the Governor to veto House Bill 1470.

Both houses of the Indiana General Assembly have passed a bill that will give monopoly gas and electric utilities around the state a blank check—worth billions of dollars in ratepayer money—to raise your monthly bill with little oversight. Before this bill becomes law, we must tell Governor Holcomb to veto House Bill 1470!

What’s HB 1470?

HB 1470 amends previous legislation that allows electric and gas utilities to raise rates for ratepayers like you to cover costs for investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure. The so called Transmission, Distribution, and Storage Improvement Charge (TDSIC) is added to your monthly bill outside the normal rate case process, and HB 1470 would mandate that the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) approve these charges even if the utility fails to specify what, exactly, they are recovering costs on. You can learn more about the bill from our friends at the Citizens Action Coalition.

What you can do

Since HB 1470 has already passed the Indiana House and Senate, it’s up to Governor Holcomb to veto the bill. Since he could take action on the bill any day, it’s important that you contact the governor today!

  • Email the governor using the online form on this page. Personalize your message to make a bigger impact!
  • Call Governor Holcomb’s office today at 317-232-4567 and ask him to veto HB 1470!
  • Share our action on social media to get your family and friends to tell Governor Holcomb #NoBlankChecks for monopoly utilities.

Hoosiers deserve policies that work for them, not giving handouts to powerful corporations at the expense of everyone else! Thank you for taking action.
