Tell Gov. Holcomb: No blank checks for monopoly utilities!
Both houses of the Indiana General Assembly have passed a bill that will give monopoly gas and electric utilities around the state a blank check—worth billions of dollars in ratepayer money—to raise your monthly bill with little oversight. Before this bill becomes law, we must tell Governor Holcomb to veto House Bill 1470!
What’s HB 1470?
HB 1470 amends previous legislation that allows electric and gas utilities to raise rates for ratepayers like you to cover costs for investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure. The so called Transmission, Distribution, and Storage Improvement Charge (TDSIC) is added to your monthly bill outside the normal rate case process, and HB 1470 would mandate that the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) approve these charges even if the utility fails to specify what, exactly, they are recovering costs on. You can learn more about the bill from our friends at the Citizens Action Coalition.
