Indiana: Tell your representative to extend the ITC!

A key incentive for homeowners to go solar is set to expire soon unless Congress acts now

The federal solar investment tax credit (ITC) has helped thousands of Hoosiers generate their own clean solar power and lower their energy bills. Since the ITC was enacted in 2006, solar installations have increased by more than 10,000% nationwide, creating more than 200,000 jobs, and pumping $140 billion into our economy. In Indiana, there are now more than 3,000 solar jobs.

But unless Congress acts this year, the ITC will be phased out in three years. Indiana’s solar market is already facing uncertain headwinds from our changing net metering policy. The last thing we need is federal policy making it harder for Hoosiers to go solar.

That’s why it’s so important to urge your representative in Congress to co-sponsor the bipartisan Renewable Energy Extension Act (HR 3961) which would extend the ITC for five years at its full 30% value. The bill needs more sponsors from both political parties to show strong support for this critical policy.

Tell your representative that extending the ITC would help Hoosiers in your district and throughout Indiana go solar, enjoy cleaner air and water, and create more local careers in the growing solar industry.
