General description (provided by the organization):

THE LINCHESTER MILL PROJECT is located on a field it shares with corn and soybean production just outside the quiet town of Preston, only a stone’s throw from the historic Linchester Mill, which operated from 1840 until the 1970’s. It was in this area, more than 150 years ago, where Harriet Tubman and other brave heroes ran a safe house as one of the stops on the underground railroad that brought enslaved people from the south to freedom in the north. The town of Preston grew stronger in the early 20th century when it became a hub for canned vegetables, particularly tomatoes. Today, it has a population of just over 700 people and calls itself “the biggest little town in the USA.”

The project is on land owned by a longtime local family, a parcel passed down through the generations. Now with the construction of a two megawatt community solar project, the Preston area will once again host innovation and a new community-building spirit for the 21st century. The Linchester Mill project will honor the connection with history in this area while helping to build a cleaner, greener future for all of us.

Because the price is guaranteed to be below the Delmarva cost of electricity for the contract term and does not escalate it should remain cheaper.
