Participants in Ohio’s first solar co-op celebrate success

Lorain County Solar Co-op members gathered on Veterans Day to celebrate the success of Solar United Neighbors’ first Ohio solar co-op Ohio. The co-op single-handedly doubled the number of arrays in Lorain County. The event was made all the more special in that it was powered by one of the new installations.

First Church in Oberlin joined the co-op and now has solar on their fellowship hall where it graciously hosted the celebration and a community potluck. Many of the attendees were recognized for their work to make the co-op successful. This Oberlin Peoples Energy Coalition as well as community members who sent testimonials to their networks, and a family who went door to door encouraging community members to attend an information session. The Oberlin College Green EDGE Fund was also recognized. The student-funded initiative enabled the co-op to place paid advertisements in local papers across the county.

The event also was a chance for many solar homeowners to meet each other, and learn how they can work together to strengthen solar policies in Ohio. Lorain County now ranks among the top ten counties in the state for the number of solar arrays.
