Residential Solar Energy Grant in Prince George’s County!

Residents of certain neighborhoods in Prince George’s county have an exciting opportunity to utilize the Energy Efficiency and Solar Energy Grants being administered by the County’s Transformation Neighborhoods Initiative (TNI). TNI is a program focused on improving the quality of life in neighborhoods facing significant economic, health, public safety, and educational challenges. Neighborhoods currently covered by the program include Langley Park, East Riverdale / Bladensburg, Glassmanor / Oxon Hill, Kentland / Palmer Park, Suitland / Coral Hills, Hillcrest Heights / Marlow Heights, Woodlawn / Lanham, Forestville, and Silver Hill.

Under their Clean Energy Grant Program, TNI will administer two grants dedicated to help offset the costs of energy and water efficiency upgrades, as well as the cost of installing solar on the homeowner’s property.

The Solar Energy Grant could offset a large portion of a homeowner’s solar installation cost. The grant will be offered to both market rate and low- and moderate-income (LMI) residents. For market rate homeowners, the grant will cover 50% of a purchased system’s cost, up to $5,000. For Income-qualified homeowners, the grant will cover 100% of a purchased system’s cost, up to $10,000. For leased systems, grants can cover 50% of the cost up to $2,000.

To qualify for the Solar Energy Grant interested homeowners must:

  1. First complete energy efficiency upgrades through the EmPOWER Maryland incentive program. (TNI’s Energy Efficiency grant will help offset the costs of implementing these energy efficiency upgrades.)
  2. Live in TNI designated neighborhoods
  3. Live within Pepco’s service area
  4. To be income qualified, the household’s gross income must be less than 60% of the median income for Prince George’s County.
