Went solar with the Potomac Solar Co-op in 2016
System size: 5.44 kW, 27 solar panels

Why did you decide to go solar?

To do my part in combating climate disruption. Especially given the fact that Dominion Power is coal-loving and green-power opposing, I felt we had to do something to counter that.

Why did you decide to go solar with the co-op?

I liked the technical assistance, the vetting of installers, and the reduced price we got. Friendly people, too!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to go solar?

Go with the co-op approach. And don’t put it off!

Has anything surprised you about going solar?

Yes, I’m surprised how many people, including environmentalists and even folks in the climate change movement, have an AHA! moment when I tell them our new, all-electric vehicle is powered off our roof. It’s as if that had never occurred to them as a possibility. Hopefully our license plates that say SUN CAR will get more people to consider it.

How much was your electric bill before and after going solar?

That wasn’t a priority for us. Still, we paid $109 in July 2016 and $39 this July.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Go solar and bring at least two friends or neighbors along with you. Put pressure on your legislators to expand the depth and breadth of solar power in your state.
