Co-ops are a great incentive for neighbors to get panels, particularly people who were on the fence!

Why did you decide to go solar?

We weren’t happy knowing that most of our electricity came from burning coal, followed by nuclear energy, and going solar seemed like the best way to avoid those two sources of energy. Now that most of our energy comes from the sun, we no longer feel so guilty about our home’s contribution to carbon emissions and mountain top mining, nor the global security and disposal issues posed by nuclear power.

Why did you decide to go solar with a solar co-op?

We were so excited when a co-op came to our community, because it meant lower prices for us, and was a great incentive for our neighbors to get panels, particularly people who were on the fence about it. We even got my brother and sister-in-law to go in on the co-op for their home.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering going solar?

Have your home assessed to see if it’s a good candidate, and if it is, go for it – we’ve been nothing but happy with ours.

Has anything surprised you about going solar?

I now look forward to my electricity bill – who would have guessed that? Our last PEPCO bill was $1.24, which is for a family of four with all the gadgets (there’s always something charging at home), and includes an electric car that drives over 50 miles/day (and only gets charged at home – go solar car!).
