Daniel – Miami, Florida
Went solar with the Miami-Dade Solar Co-op in 2018.
System Size: 30 kW
Why did you decide to go solar?
[During Hurricane Irma], our house was without power for 14 or 15 days. And I didn’t have water without electricity either. I decided that never again am I going to depend on a company for my whole livelihood.
Has anything surprised you about going solar?
Taxes! Oh! Gosh! I forgot about the taxes! $2.50/W was actually $1.75/W for me… And the panel actually looks better than anything out there. My wife is a designer; she loves it.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering going solar?
If you are thinking about installing a battery system, compare the installation cost for installing a whole house generator or similar arrangement, and its operating and fuel cost. It’s worth it.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I have so much appreciation to Jody and Solar United Neighbors… They are really doing a great educational service to the community. And a great selection committee. Passion for solar and absolutely great compassion for the whole community.
