Going solar with a group is rewarding and takes away some of the more difficult steps – and it builds an ever-growing solar community.

Why did you decide to go solar?

To attempt to live as close to net-carbon neutral as possible.

Did anything surprise you about going solar?

We did it with Solarize Houston (the precursor to SUN co-ops) – and it was a rewarding experience!

Do you have any data about your solar system performance? What electricity savings have you seen since going solar?

There are four adults that live in this 2500 sq.ft home. The system powers 2 electric vehicles, and electric lawn mower, as well as the whole house. With the net-metering program we were able to get from GME, we have not paid an electric bill once over the last two years (with the exception of one month when our grand-daughter drove the larger electric vehicle more than usual!)

What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?

Going solar with a group is rewarding and takes away some of the more difficult steps – and it builds an ever-growing solar community.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

We did add an LG battery for piece of mind during power outages. That decision was not financially motivated, unlike the purchase of the solar, which is providing us with a payback!
