Going solar is less daunting with a co-op. Comforting to know that the suppliers and installers were researched and well regarded.

What interested you about going solar initially? Why do you support solar energy?

The real incentive to going solar was to use a renewable source of energy and we thought our house was well situated for it.  Solar is a clean renewable source of energy and we wanted to do something to reduce our carbon footprint — particularly these days.

Why did you choose to go solar with a solar co-op? What benefits did you experience going solar with a co-op?

Given the regulatory environment and the science and engineering behind it, learning about solar and its installation on your home does involve research and study.  The co-op was very helpful on all these fronts.  The process can also be a bit daunting and it was comforting to know that the solar supplier and installer that we used was well regarded and had been throughly researched by VA Sun.

Has anything surprised you about going solar?

How easy it has been.  After the installation, all we need to do is to log into a website to monitor our system and the solar energy created by it.

Do you have any data on your solar system’s performance? What electricity savings have you seen since going solar?

Currently, 50% of our energy use is provided by our solar energy system.  But, we’ve been trying to become more energy efficient in other areas, so hope to increase that percentage over the next months and years.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering going solar?
