What is happening
We deserve to pick the energy solution that works best for our families and saves us the most money. Community solar makes this possible. It brings solar energy’s benefits to those who can’t install solar where they live, whether because they rent, can’t afford the upfront costs, or their roof isn’t suitable for solar installation.
Unfortunately, not all states have community solar programs. Only 22 states and the D.C. have passed community solar legislation. It’s time for the rest of the country to have the same opportunity to benefit from solar energy.
The good news is that Congress is considering the Community Solar Consumer Choice Act, HR 2751, to require utilities to offer community solar programs in every state.
What is community solar?
Community solar allows individuals, businesses, and organizations to subscribe to a “share” or portion of solar generation in a nearby community solar project. When you join a community solar project, you receive a credit on your electric bill each month. This can lower your bill by 10-20%. The size of your share determines how much credit you receive.
Community solar is a win for everyone.
