Rooftop solar is growing in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but going solar isn’t always smooth sailing.
While solar prices have come a long way, the cost of going solar is still a significant hurdle for many. Getting the necessary permits can make it more time-consuming than it needs to be to go solar, since there are separate applications required for each permit.
The good news is that we can take action to help solve both of these problems.
State legislators can pass legislation that would help make it easier and more affordable for Minnesotans to go solar this year. Two key solar bills would:
- Help cities adopt SolarAPP+, an online automated rooftop solar permitting system developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, so that Minnesota home- and business-owners can go solar more quickly and easily while still ensuring safe installs that comply with state and local regulations; and
- Increase funding for Xcel’s Solar Rewards program, which provides incentives that help make solar accessible to more Xcel customers, including low-income customers.
Legislators need to hear from solar supporters like you! Reach out to your elected leaders and tell them that you want to see bills funding both of these key solar programs pass this year.
