Connecticut lawmakers are close to passing a law that will protect you from paying for monopoly utilities’ political machines.
New bill would stop utility corruption
The bill would ensure that investor-owned utility companies like Eversource and United Illuminating aren’t able to charge you for their lobbying. They are currently able to use your money to pay dues to political lobby groups like the American Gas Association or Edison Electric Institute. They can also use it for public relations expenses to launder their dirty reputation. And, they can pay for high-priced lawyers to argue for higher rates.
Connecticut lawmakers are considering a bill, SB 7, that would reign in these excesses. This bi-partisan legislation would:
- Make it harder for utilities to increase your rates
- Stop utilities from using your money to lobby against your interests

The state senate passed the bill 35-0. The state house will vote on it soon. Monopoly utilities are working hard to stop it. Please use the form on this page to contact your state representative. Tell them to protect Connecticut families, not utilities.
