What is happening
Red tape is making it harder for Maryland families to go solar. Local governments are taking days or weeks to approve installations. Many of these approvals could be made in a matter of minutes.
This is why lawmakers are considering legislation that would require local governments to use a permitting program called “SolarAPP+.”
SolarAPP+ cuts through red tape
SolarApp+ is a free tool developed by the national Department of Energy (DOE). SolarAPP+ helps local governments quickly and accurately approve certain types of solar installation designs. This:
- Lowers the cost of going solar
- Speeds installation times
- Maximizes homeowners’ solar investment
More than 160 jurisdictions across the country, including Montgomery County, use SolarAPP+. It’s time for the rest of Maryland to join them.
