Congress is close to passing the best bill for solar in a generation.
Here are the key parts of the bill for solar supporters to know:
- Homeowners will be able to take a 30% tax credit off the cost of their installation for systems installed any time between now and the end of 2032. The credit then steps down to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034.
- The bill includes tax credits for home battery storage energy systems at the same percentage as for solar systems.
- The bill expands the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). REAP offers grants for rural solar projects.
- The bill provides $9.7 billion in new funding for clean energy transition at rural electric cooperatives.
These key provisions are part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA).
