WASHINGTON DC: World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has organized more than 70 employees, their families, and other supporters in the D.C. area to go solar together, helping participants save more than 30% off the cost of a rooftop solar project. Organized as part of WWF’s  “Renewable: It’s Doable” campaign, the bulk purchase program is one of a number of initiatives WWF has launched to encourage renewable energy adoption across the country. Says WWF’s Keya Chatterjee, director of renewable energy and footprint outreach:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for WWF to walk the walk. We’re showing our supporters how easy installing solar can be by jumping in ourselves and helping our employees and members of our community go through the process. Plus it’s providing a great benefit to our community and the environment by helping to reduce carbon emissions.”

WWF worked with local nonprofit Community Power Network (CPN) and DC SUN to facilitate the process. CPN, which has implemented a number of bulk purchase programs in the region, solicited competitive bids from local installers on behalf of the group.

After reviewing a number of competitive bids from local installers, a committee of interested participants selected Md.-based Edge Energy to complete all of the installations for the group. Each participant will own their individual system through a customized contract with the company.

EDGE Energy is a locally-owned and highly-regarded residential, commercial, and government contractor which is licensed, insured, and bonded throughout DC, MD, and VA. The company designs and installs energy-efficiency and renewable energy systems in the region.
