Solar co-op in the Upper Keys seeks installer

By Ben Delman on February 28, 2018

The 35-participant Upper Keys Solar Co-op has issued a request for proposals (RFP) from area solar installers. Participants created the co-op to save money and make going solar easier, while building a network of solar supporters. The group also announced it will host an information meeting on Thursday, March 22 to educate the community about solar and the co-op process.

Local installers interested in serving the group can download the RFP and response template. Keys homeowners from the Long Key Bridge north interested in joining the co-op can sign up at the co-op web page.

The co-op is free to join and joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Co-op participants will select a single company to complete all of the installations. They will then have the option to purchase panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, participants can save up off the cost of going solar and have the support of fellow group participants and solar experts at Solar United Neighbors.

The Upper Keys League of Women Voters, Sierra Club Miami/Monroe County, Burton Memorial United Methodist Church, Florida Keys Brewing Co, Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, Upper Keys Business and Professional Women, and the Island of Key Largo Federation of Homeowner Associations are sponsoring the co-op.
