Solar co-op in Sarasota seeks installer

The 51-participant Sarasota Solar Co-op has issued a request for proposals (RFP) from area solar installers. The group participants created the co-op to save money and make going solar easier, while building a network of solar supporters. The group also announced it will host an information meeting July 11 at the Jacaranda Library to educate the community about solar and the co-op process.

Local installers interested in serving the group can download the RFP and response template. Sarasota residents interested in joining the co-op can sign up at the co-op website: www.solarunitedneighbors.org/sarasota.

The co-op is free to join. Joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Co-op participants will select a single company to complete all of the installations. They will then have the option to purchase panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, participants can save up off the cost of going solar and have the support of fellow group participants and solar experts at Solar United Neighbors.

The League of Women Voters of Sarasota County, Sierra Club, City of Sarasota, Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations, Peace Education and Action Center, Florida House Institute, Mote Marine Laboratory, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota are the co-op sponsors.
