Homeowners in the New & Gauley area forming solar co-op

Neighbors in the New & Gauley Rivers region have formed a solar co-op to save money and make going solar easier, with the help of nonprofit Solar United Neighbors. The group is open to residents and businesses in Summersville, Richwood, Webster Springs, Fayetteville, Oak Hill, Beckley, and surrounding areas. The group is seeking participants and will host public information meetings to educate the community about solar and the co-op process.

New & Gauley River area homeowners and business owners interested in joining the co-op can sign up at www.solarunitedneighbors.org/new&gauley. The solar co-op is free to join and joining is not a commitment to purchase panels. Once the group is large enough, Solar United Neighbors will help the co-op solicit competitive bids from area solar installers.

Co-op participants will select a single company to complete all of the installations. They will then have the option to purchase panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, participants can save off the cost of going solar with guidance from the experts at Solar United Neighbors.

Pies & Pints-Fayetteville, Secret Sandwich Society, Water Stone Outdoors, Warm Hands from Warm Hearts-Fayette County, Keeper of the Mountain Foundations, the League of Women Voters of West Virginia, and the West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club are sponsoring the co-op.
