Why did you decide to go solar?

I always felt intrigued by having something like a solar-powered home, finally, we moved to Connecticut where electricity prices are at the top10 in the country. It was installed last year, and it has worked seamlessly with a propane backup generator.

What was the process like for you? Did anything surprise you, or were there challenges you had to overcome?

The whole process was pretty transparent actually, a few minutes of reading the contract and understanding how it works and what we were agreeing upon, all done online via DocuSign, then the design, permits, install times and the actual time between install and operations did not exceed more than 3 weeks. Some challenges were regarding production since we are surrounded by some 100 ft tall trees and that shade reduces the generation therefore more panels were required.

Have any of your habits changed since going solar?

Besides being even more cautious and conscious of consumption since whatever is generated is technically mine we use as we need with no waste of electricity, we actually had to change the HVAC system, and installed a new Seer 16 Air conditioned, said to be more efficient and we also implemented a smart (NEST) thermostat.

Have you seen electricity savings since going solar? If so, what have you been able to do with that savings?

Definitely savings with a fixed monthly payment so we can now budget from it.

What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?

Hopefully, batteries have a technological leap and massification so prices and efficiencies on storage as well as applications make it more affordable.
