New solar co-ops forming in Manor Park, Georgetown-Burleith neighborhoods

Neighbors in the Manor Park neighborhood as well as in Georgetown-Burleith have formed solar co-ops to save money and make going solar easier, while building a network of solar supporters. DC SUN is working with the Manor Park Citizens Association (MPCA) in that neighborhood, and with and the Georgetown Renewable Energy and Environmental Network as well as resident Greg Miller in Georgetown-Burleith. Both groups are seeking members and will host information meetings (dates below) to educate the community about solar and the co-op process.

Neighborhood residents in interested in joining these co-ops can click to sign up for the Manor Park and Georgetown-Burleith co-ops respectively. Joining a co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Once the groups are large enough, DC SUN will help the co-ops solicit competitive bids from area solar installers.

Co-op members will select a single company to complete all of the installations. They will then have the option to purchase panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, participants generally save up to 20% off the cost of their system.
