EVs and solar in New Jersey

As of 2018, New Jersey was home to more than 17,000 electric vehicles. Ranking No. 7 among states with the highest number of EVs in the U.S., New Jersey has implemented a number of incentives to increase EV adoption. Zero emissions vehicles are exempt from sales tax as well as emissions tests. Electric vehicle drivers will receive a discount on EZ Pass tolls, and may use certain stretches of HOV lanes, regardless of the number of passengers.
The VW “dieselgate” settlement will provide $72 million to New Jersey. The Department of Environmental Protection solicited and received numerous project ideas, including several on vehicle electrification and infrastructure. The Department’s plan for distributing the funds to projects is still underway.
