Benedum Foundation to support solar growth across West Virginia

WV SUN is proud to announce support from the Benedum Foundation to help us implement half a dozen solar co-ops across the state. The solar co-ops help West Virginia residents go solar by engaging local communities, educating people about solar power, and helping neighbors use their bulk purchasing power to get better pricing from installers.

“Solar co-ops have engaged hundreds of West Virginians to learn about solar and join a growing community of solar supporters,” Karan Ireland, WV SUN Program Director said. “Support from the Benedum Foundation is terrific validation for the co-op model.”

The creation of additional West Virginia solar co-ops will make a significant impact on the local economy. WV SUN expects to the new co-ops will result in 70 – 100 new solar installations. These will generate more than a million dollars in local economic investment and create more than a dozen local jobs.

The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation serves West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania. Michael and Sarah Benedum established the foundation in 1944. It provides grants to support specific initiatives in the areas of education, economic development, health and human services, and community development.
