Co-op partner profile: Assateague Coastal Trust

The Assateague Coastal Trust (ACT) is a nonprofit environmental advocacy and education organization with a mission to promote and encourage the protection of the health, productivity, and sustainability of the coastal bays watershed of Delmarva.

ACT connected with MD SUN through John Groutt, a board member of the Wicomico Environmental Trust. ACT decided to get involved in the solar co-op because of the group’s work promoting sustainable energy sources as part of advocacy and education agenda.

According to Steve Farr, ACT’s Development Director, through ACT’s involvement with the Worcester County Solar Co-op they would like to “promote greater use of sustainable energy sources in our region and educate our members and supporters about opportunities to access solar power.”

In June, ACT hosted a solar info session in Ocean Pines for area residents to learn more about solar technology, economics, and how solar co-ops can help homeowners save money when going solar as a group. The Worcester Solar Co-op is open to new members. If you are interested in joining, or just learning more, you can visit the co-op web page.
