The USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) provides grants and loan guarantees for small businesses and farms that want to make energy improvements. It will be holding a public information session on September 8 at 1 p.m. to answer questions about the program.

The grant provides up to 25% of the cost of a project for eligible projects. The loan guarantee can cover up to 75% of the project’s cost. Attendees will learn what types of projects are eligible, who is eligible, and how to apply for the program.

The session will also feature success stories from businesses and farmers who have used the grants.

“In the past year, we’ve done 17 projects,” said Jesse Grandee from the USDA. “The year before that it was about 17 three years ago we did about ten. The majority of those are for solar.”

The grants and loans are distributed on a rolling deadline. The next deadline is October 30.
