Rappahannock Solar Co-op kicks off with meeting this Sunday

By Brandon Walton on June 9, 2015

Community members in Rappahannock County are going solar together and getting a discount! This program is part of a local, grassroots effort to increase the use of solar energy and to lower installation and equipment costs through a bulk purchase process. The co-op will be holding an information session this Sunday, June 14, 2 PM at the Theatre at Washington.

The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (RLEP) and VA SUN are sponsoring the co-op.

Based on the same principal as buying in bulk, the co-op will go through the process of purchasing solar systems together. The group will select a single contractor to install systems on all of the homes, but each participant owns their own system and will sign their own contract with the chosen installer.

By going solar as a group, members will save up to 20% off the cost of a solar system. They’ll also have the support of the co-op throughout the process, instead of having to go it alone.
