Virginia Beach Solar Co-op Expands To Include All Of South Hampton Roads

By Brandon Walton on May 27, 2015

The Virginia Beach Solar Co-op is expanding! We’ve added the neighboring Hampton Roads towns of Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth to the group. Co-op members will be able to leverage their collective buying power to go solar together and get a discount off the installation price for their systems.

The group will host informational meetings on June 9 at Croc’s Restaurant (620 19th St., Virginia Beach) at 6:30 PM and June 10 at the Ernie Morgan Environmental Center (3500-A Granby Street, Norfolk) at 6:30PM. Below are links to RSVP for either meeting.

June 9, Croc’s Restaurant, 6:30 PM

Jun 10, Ernie Morgan Environmental Center 6:30 PM

Residents of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth interested in solar can learn more about solar energy and the co-op process at the co-op website.

Joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Once the group is large enough, VA SUN will help the co-op solicit competitive bids from area solar installers, and select a single company to complete all of the installations. Co-op members will then have the option to purchase panels based upon the installer’s offer individually.

By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, each participant generally saves up to 20% off the cost of their system and has the assistance of VA SUN to help navigate the process.
