WV SUN Names new State Director, announces Charleston co-op info session

We’re proud to announce the hiring of Karan Ireland as WV SUN’s new State Director. Ireland will lead the organization as it continues to develop solar co-ops across the state to help West Virginians save money with solar energy. To further that effort, WV SUN will be holding an information session for Charleston residents interested in solar on Wednesday, July 15 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier Street, from 6 – 8 pm.

“I am excited to join with WV SUN to help more communities go solar,” said Ireland. “Solar energy has shown that it can help save money on energy bills, create good local jobs, and give consumers a choice of where their electricity comes from.”

Ireland comes to WV SUN from the West Virginia Citizen Action Group where she was Development Director. In addition to that role, she worked to ensure all West Virginians had access to safe drinking water and took the lead in response to the 2014 Elk River Chemical Leak.

WV SUN has worked with five solar co-ops in the state. Its co-ops in Charleston, Wheeling, and Morgantown are active and accepting new members. WV SUN has worked with more than 100 co-op members, saving residents $38,500 in the past year.
