Tucson 2020 Solar Co-op

System Size: 20 panels

Arizona is the perfect place for solar. Why not?

Why did you decide to go solar?

We had thought about for a while and wanted to help environmentally. With the prices having gone down so much, it just made sense.

Did anything surprise you about the process of going solar?

Everything went so smoothly! We did have to have our roof re-sealed which worried us, but it ended up working out just fine.

Why did you choose to go solar with Solar United Neighbors?

We wanted to try community solar but it wasn’t available so we figured the co-op was the next best option.

What benefits did you experience going solar with a co-op?

There’s strength in numbers and SUN provides the education! TFS being an ethical solar company also helped. We did receive bids from a few installers on our own, but something didn’t feel right.

Do you have any data about your solar system performance? What electricity savings have you seen since going solar?

During the winter time we are usually getting credits for our production (between 5 and 20 per month.) During the Summer, our bill is usually cut in half. (Used to be $200-$250. Now its usually $100-$150.)

What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?

I would definitely encourage people to use the co-op. Also, you have to weigh the cost and your payback period, but since the costs have come down so dramatically, I think it’s worth it.

Anything else you’d like to add?
