Why did you decide to go solar?

I’ve been an environmental advocate for most of my life. Going solar (and wind) has been on my mind since I bought my house ten years ago. After listening to and then being a part of the local solar movements, I could finally afford to do it. And though I could afford only enough to combat 54% of my energy usage, it’s something!

Did anything surprise you about going solar?

Getting a home equity loan (my first one) through Discover, was very easy. The installation was very quick. The team was super friendly and truly seemed to love their work (can’t blam’em there). Duke was very far behind on their side of things so, I ended up having to wait one month before being able to USE my panels – that was surprising and disheartening.

What benefits did you experience going solar with a co-op?

Them choosing the installer and getting what was hopefully the best rates we could get.

Do you have any data about your solar system performance? What electricity savings have you seen since going solar?

Even with starting in the winter, I have definitely seen an almost 50% reduction in my two electric bills so far.

What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?

Just do it!

Anything else you’d like to add?

I wish I could have gone 100% but, maybe in the (near) future.
