Grateful for significant savings and assistance provided through the cooperative.
Laura Brown, Brian, Maya, and Ian – Washington, D.C.
Went solar with the Lincoln Park Solar Co-op in 2017
System size: 3.9 kW, 13 solar panels
Why did you decide to go solar?
The primary reason was long-term savings. I am always trying to reduce costs on regular bills and although this required a significant upfront cost, there were significant savings over time. The secondary reason was environmental.
Why did you decide to go solar with the co-op?
[Going solar with the co-op provided a] discount on installation, plus having someone else do the due diligence on installers.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to go solar?
[Going solar with the co-op] is a significant savings and also provides someone [besides the installer] who can answer questions and help you in the process.
Has anything surprised you about going solar?
I was surprised by how valuable the SRECS are in D.C. compared to other states. That’s a real incentive to do this in D.C.
Do you have any data on your solar system’s performance?
So far it has produced 576.14 kWh.
How much was your electric bill before and after going solar?
The system averaged $100/month before solar. Of course, more in the summer and less in the winter.
