2021 Centre County Solar Co-op

System size – 6.57kW

Why did you decide to go solar?

We knew that the cost savings would take a few years to take effect, but moving away from fossil fuels is something that I would like to see more people be able to do.

Why did you go solar with a SUN solar co-op?

There were meetings with others, and there was comfort in numbers for me. We got a discount, which is important because it is an investment. Not everyone can do that. SUN helped advise about the tax credit.

What advice would you give to people who are considering solar?

Definitely look into it. The upfront costs, depending on your budget, can be a bit much. But in the long run, it’s worth it for many reasons – financial, shifting to renewable energy, and it’s better for the planet.

What advice would you give to people who are interested in joining the solar co-op?

It’s very helpful. There are a lot of options these days, so learning as much as you can up front so that you learn the right questions to ask. I was a member of the selection committee, and I attended the Solar 101 Info Session. That was definitely an advantage because then there are people to be able to answer your questions. And the information was less biased because SUN doesn’t represent a specific company.
