Going with a SUN group probably saved me around $3000.

MN Twin Cities 2021 Solar Co-op

System Size: 9.2 kW

Why did you decide to go solar?

I took environmental studies classes in college in the early 90s. Even then, climate change was an established problem. Today, the effects are becoming more and more obvious. I just want to do my part to help.

Why did you choose to go solar with Solar United Neighbors?

SUN made the process very easy. They provide a lot of background information. They provide perspective that comes from knowledge about the products, market, and local installers. They have experience going through the process of introducing potential customers to solar and helping with any questions. But they don’t make any decisions for the group. Anyone who signs up can help choose the installer for the group. And participating with a group requires no commitment.

What benefits do you experience going solar with a co-op?

I got a couple other estimates outside of our SUN group. They were at least 50 cents per watt higher. Going with a SUN group probably saved me around $3000.

Do you have any data about your solar system performance? What electricity savings have you seen since going solar?

It’s nice when the energy company sends me a check, rather than the other way around. I’ve had the panels for a little over a year now. Last winter, we got a lot of snow. For four months, they were mostly covered and didn’t produce a lot. But the rest of the year they were very productive

What advice would you give to someone considering going solar?

Go for it. I’m glad I did.
