Solar co-op in Highlands County seeks installer

By Ben Delman on May 1, 2018

The 19-participant Highlands County Solar Co-op today issued a request for proposals (RFP) from area solar installers. The group participants created the co-op to save money and make going solar easier, while building a network of solar supporters. Highlands County NAACP, Highlands County Audubon, Alan Jay Automotive Network, Faded Bistro, The Print Shop, Staircase Grill, Firehouse Billboards are the co-op sponsors. The group also announced it will host an information meeting Tuesday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the Highlands County Extension Office to educate the community about solar and the co-op process.

Local installers interested in serving the group can download the RFP and response template. Highlands County residents interested in joining the co-op can sign up at the co-op web page.

Joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Co-op participants will select a single company to complete all of the installations. They will then have the option to purchase panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing a single installer, participants can save up off the cost of going solar and have the support of fellow group participants and solar experts at Solar United Neighbors.

For Highland County residents who want to go solar on their own, Solar United Neighbors also offers a paid membership program. Our members receive one-on-one, expert help every step of going solar. Members continue to receive support long after installation through a dedicated help desk that will answer questions regarding their system’s performance and provide help understanding emerging technologies and new incentives.
