Houston Central Solar Co-op Rebate

Going solar with the Houston Central Solar Co-op can save you an additional $200-$250 per kilowatt off the cost of your solar energy system – that could mean an additional savings of around $1,000 for a 4 kW array or around $2,000 for an 8 kW array depending on system performance.

Solar United Neighbors is working with the electric utility CenterPoint Energy to make going solar more affordable. Now through November 2019, Houston Central Solar Co-op members can access the CenterPoint Energy incentive when they go solar. The value of the rebate is based on the size of your solar energy system in kilowatts and the amount of electricity it will produce.

Am I eligible for the rebate?

You must live in an area served by CenterPoint Energy in order to qualify. Those eligible will have an EIS number on their electric bill that begins with 10089. You can also input your address into this map to see if your home is within the service area.

How do I get the rebate?

First, you need to join the Houston Central Solar Co-op. Once you sign an individual contract with the co-op’s selected installer, they will calculate the value of the rebate and include it on your proposal. After the system is installed and in good standing financially (paid in full or financed fully), with CenterPoint Energy’s final approval, the installer will send your rebate to you within 60 days of approval.

How much is the rebate?

The rebate is based on the size of your system and how much electricity it is expected to produce in its first year of operation. For a typical 4 kW system, this could be around $1,000 savings. For a typical 8 kW system this would be around $2,000. Funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
