Lauren Barchi

Maryland Program Director

Lauren is a third-generation native of Baltimore City. She grew up playing in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay where she discovered her passion for the environment and the communities that live in its watershed.  As an environmental scientist and community activist, Lauren joins her love of people with her scientific background, striving to bring together diverse groups around common goals.  After years working in the government and private sectors, she is excited to be part of this team where she can help all Marylanders access solar energy.  Lauren lives in West Baltimore with her wife and dog, Cinnamon.

Andrea Hylant

Go Solar Program Coordinator

Andrea supports the development of projects in our D.C., Maryland, and Pennsylvania programs. This includes educating participants about the process of going solar and aiding in the research and development of new educational tools and pilot projects. Andrea is thrilled to have the opportunity to tap into her background in environmental science and geology and passion for sustainability to bring about tangible change to the energy system, both in her D.C. home and across the country.

Carra Cheslin

Director of Engagement

Carra serves as the Director of Engagement for Solar United Neighbors and is passionate about connecting, activating, and engaging people from all walks of life in the environmental movement. She joined Solar United Neighbors to contribute to the implementation of tangible on the ground solutions to climate change and to mobilize more folks to get involved with spreading the word about renewable energy in their communities. Carra has over a decade of professional experience in program management and design, community outreach and engagement, youth development, and digital organizing in the non-profit, local government, recreation, and education sectors. Carra holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Sociology-based Human Relations from Connecticut College and is a certified Wilderness First Responder and Master Gardener.

Zach Schalk

Communications Specialist

Zach is a passionate storyteller dedicated to promoting justice. He believes in the power of human-scale stories to motivate action and the potential for collective action to shape a more just and equitable future. Building a society with distributed, community controlled solar power system is one step toward the future he hopes to see. Zach earned a BA in journalism and political science from Indiana University and a MA in Communication, Culture & Technology from Georgetown University. He has more than a decade of experience as a communicator and organizer.
