Homeowners associations and solar access in Pennsylvania

Homeowners associations (HOAs) typically establish rules for a neighborhood’s aesthetic and sometimes attempt to restrict your ability to go solar. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania does not have rules that prevent HOAs from stopping you from going solar.

HOAs in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania has not passed any laws to protect a homeowner’s right to install solar on their home. Nor are homeowners able to negotiate solar easements to protect their panels’ exposure to sunlight.

Pennsylvania is one of the few states without a law to protect our rights to solar. That’s why it’s important to urge your legislators to support SB 1039, a bill to defend the right of Pennsylvania homeowners to generate their own solar power.
