End utility shut-offs during COVID-19 crisis
Texas families who are unable to pay their electric or water bill risk having these services shut off. This is a serious threat to public health.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused widespread loss of wages and jobs across Texas. Many are unable to afford their monthly utility bills. Utilities can turn off service for unpaid bills.
This is why Governor Greg Abbott needs to act. Ask Governor Abbot to mandate a moratorium on all residential electric and water disconnections.
Water and electricity service are critical to protect public health. It’s hard for people who don’t have electricity or water service to stay home. No one should have to pick between essential life-sustaining services during a national time of crisis. Depriving anyone of them during this emergency is cruel and puts public health at risk.
