Don’t sell JEA to a monopoly utility
Plans to sell Jacksonville's utility, JEA, could put our ability to go solar at risk.
Selling JEA would put it into the hands of a monopoly utility. This would be bad news. Monopoly utilities are no friend to our right to go solar. Florida monopoly utilities spent tens of millions of dollars in 2016 in a failed attempt to deny our right to install solar. Selling JEA means inviting one of these utilities into our back yard.
No matter which utility would buy JEA, it would see solar customers as a threat to its business model. It would do everything it could to make it harder and more expensive to go solar. This could mean imposing unfair fees on solar customers, delays in getting solar permits approved, and limits on the amount of solar we can generate on our own property.
