Tell Ocala leaders: Don’t take away our right to go solar

Last month Jacob Williams, CEO of Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), told municipal utility leaders that they should impose a fixed, monthly $50 fee to make solar customers “go away.”

Charging an extra $600 a year for electricity hurts everyone. It is harmful to people who have invested in rooftop solar systems and energy efficiency improvements in their homes. High fixed charges limit the amount we can save by generating our own electricity.

Solar supporters need to speak out against this outrageous attempt to deny our right to go solar.

Tell FMPA board chair Barbara Quiñones to disavow higher fixed charges. Municipal utilities should help their customers control their energy costs with rooftop solar power.
